Family Practice - Emergency Medicine
Residents spend one month rotating in the Emergency Department at Mountainside Hospital during their first year. During this time, residents increase their understanding of trauma and the necessity for quick and accurate diagnosis and treatment. Under the guidance of trained emergency medicine specialist, residents develop triaging, time-management and organization skills. They learn to assess and manage a variety of scenarios, including burns, victims of violence, motor vehicle traumas, neurological and psychiatric emergencies. They also become proficient in recognizing and treating such conditions as respiratory failure, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and shock.
