Family Practice - Surgery
Residents spend one month during the PGY-1 and PGY-2 years on the Surgery rotation obtaining skills to treat patients in all phases of their surgical care. The surgical resident provides pre- and post-operative care and assists the surgeon in the operating room. They increase their ability to manage coming post-operative complications such as wound infection, hemorrhages, thrombotic venous disease, pain management and pulmonary emboli. The resident also attends outpatient office hours with attending surgeons and learns to perform outpatient surgical procedures such as suturing, laceration repair, punch biopsies, etc. In addition, the resident will learn many surgical procedures at the Family Practice Center with Family Practice attendings that have expertise performing outpatient procedures. |
